The sport always seems to find fighters who keep making a mockery of this wonderful sport and this time it’s a new addition to the list with Tyson Fury who is the sole reason why the undisputed fight got away.
Let’s start with Frank Warren first who I respect a lot as a promoter. So Frank Warren has himself admitted on record that this was an easy fight to make and was a 50-50 fight at the beginning. From that conversation, it then went to a 70-30 split in favour of Tyson Fury, that would be Tyson’s call to change the split to 70-30 in his favour since Frank Warren had other thoughts at the beginning. From a 30-70 split which is a ridiculous offer to a unified champion who holds 3 of the 4 belts and a formed undisputed cruiserweight, to then offer Usyk a supposedly 50-50 split in a rematch even if Usyk wins the 1st fight is a disgrace. At every stage looks like there were these ridiculous demands put in place from Fury’s camp for the fight to be cancelled and it eventually did.
A Walking contradiction:- Well we all felt for quite some time now about Tyson Fury that he is a walking contradiction, the difference is Carl Froch went out in public and said it. Let’s look at some of the contradictions Fury has expressed in his interviews.
- I will fight Joshua for free, then ask for a 60-40 split in his favour and a deadline to sign.
- I am happily retired and will never fight again.
- I need half a billion to come out of retirement and fight Usyk.
- I would rather have legacy over money, Then in another interview says I don’t give one damn about my legacy.
- He says I know a lot of unhappy billionaires. I am not a money person, it’s never about money for me. Then demands a 70-30 split for the Usyk fight and a 50-50 split for the rematch.
- I don’t care about belts, then in another interview say I am proud of all the belts I have won in my career.
The list of contradictions is never ending and this is the sole reason why Fury is getting backlash on social media post this negotiation. His statements are full of contradictions and can’t be trusted. His credibility has taken a massive hit and fans are not going to trust him anymore. He portrays himself as a fighting man who will fight anyone anywhere for free but his actions speak otherwise.
Tyson Fury:- is a fantastic fighter, who anyway was the favourite in the Usyk fight and will remain a favourite in all the heavyweight fights he takes for the rest of his career. He possesses unique attributes and skill sets as a heavyweight which is what makes him special and a p4p fighter but he needs to stop bullying his opponents who are champions when it comes to negotiations. It has now happened on multiple occasions, or else we would remember Fury and his career for all wrong reasons outside the ring which would not be fair considering how special of a fighter Fury was inside the ring.
Oleksandr Usyk:- on the other hand is a prideful man. He is a warrior who believes in fighting the best. Has gone and beaten champions in their backyard and continues to do so. Hence there is a consensus amongst fans that Usyk would never duck anyone because of the way he has carried himself so far in his career and his resume speaks for itself. In this particular situation, I felt Usyk’s pride was hurt, he felt disrespected by the way he was treated during negotiations and did the right thing by walking away. If there is any one fighter right now who needs money the most, it would be Usyk, look at the situation in his country, suffering from war for more than a year now, there is a big onus on him to help his fellow people, despite that he was ready to accept 30-70 split in 1st fight. That speaks volumes of Usyk and what an individual he is.
Another undisputed fight that got away. Who do you think was responsible ?
